The Beta is almost here - today a short video preview was released to highlight the profile capabilities of WSP. Check it out here:
It has been a while since our last update - development was put on
hold due to other projects (paying projects) taking precedence.
The following features have been completed and we are nearing beta
status!
1. Profile Editor – The profile editor allows profiles to be edited “offline” and saved without changing any of the current service states.
2. Profile fixer – The profile fixer allows a user to take any profile and mold it to their machine. This will allow users to share profiles, as well as download pre-created profiles and fix it for their own use. The fixer will essentially remove services that are not installed and add services that may not be present in the profile.
What's Next?
1. There are a few minor loose ends to be addressed but the bulk of the features are now complete
2. Documentation & supporting resources (default profiles etc)
3. Test, test, test. Before WSP goes beta it will be tested in house. Once we hit beta status we will rely on the users to help test usability and functionality!
Stay tuned for more announcements!

Work continues. In the last week several features were added to the application.
The following features were added:
1. Full Backup and restore - on first run a backup will be created as a restore point should it be needed. You can also create an updated backup at anytime from the tools menu.
2. Blacklist - This blacklist is useful for Vista and Win7 users. These operating systems have several services that are not user controlled and continually start and stop. This can cause confusion with recognizing saved profiles. Blacklisting a service will let the profile ignore the current state of that service and even disregard profile commands to start \ stop that service.
3. More Options - The options screen added the capability to select the more info search provider, or even add your own. This creates custom search capabilities.
4. Profile Descriptions - It should have been included from the beginning, but it was not. Now the first line of each profile file contains a description of the profile. This description is displayed in the preview sections.
5. Profile Compare - A user can compare any profile to the current state of the machine, this allows you to quickly understand what changes any profile will apply before actually applying it.
What's Next?
1. Profile Editor – Currently profiles can only be edited from the current state view – while this is convenient, you must modify the current state of the machine to edit a profile. The profile editor will allow profiles to be edited “offline” and saved without changing any of the current service states.
2. Profile fixer – The profile fixer will allow a user to take any profile and mold it to their machine. This will allow users to share profiles, as well as download pre-created profiles and fix it for their own use. The fixer will essentially remove services that are not installed and add services that may not be present in the profile.

We are getting closer to the release of WSP v1.0 - Most of the coding is now finished, there are a few additional features that have been recommended that are being put in before the beta.
Work has also started on the supporting documentation to be released with the installation kit.
Lastly, a new video has been created showing the application in
action.
A lot of ground has been covered in the last 3 days - WSP is firming up. Coding is almost complete for the main GUI. The beta may be released without the full profile editor, profiles can still be created and maintained in the current app - but much more functionality will be added.
There are a few bugs that need to be resolved, but nothing major that would prevent use of the application.
Check back soon - I expect to have the download kit on the site shortly.
Also, Please register at the forums and let me know your thoughts!
Some more progress was made on WSP and with that progress is
a short concept video. Check out the downloads section to get the video or click here to watch it in your browser.
This Development has started on the Windows Service Profiler. WSP will allow users to not only control windows services, but save pre-configured and personalized profiles to instantly modify the PCs role and resource consumption.

We recently got our hands on an Asus EeePC 1000HE. The first step was to perform a few upgrads - Windows 7, more memory and a bigger hard drive to start. See all the details and learn how it performs here.
